First Thursday Weigh In!!!

I offically changed my weigh-in day to Thursdays.  Thursdays are a great day for me, so why not, right.  Last week I had a gain of 1.8 and sure didn't want to have another PLUS this week.   I am happy to report that I lost 1.8 for a total of 20.8 lbs lost since mid-January!!!  I'm happy to be back to my losing ways.  I really, really, really  want to use my 25lb reward, my massage gift certificate. 

I hope the upcoming week is a goodie. It feels good to see the sun. It was so depressing with the non-stop rain for days and days.  I had some major carb cravings last week.  Trisket thins and cheese...omg.  I weigh and measure...and count the points, but man I went into weekly and activity points.  UGH  I felt out of control.  I'm not sure what reeled me back in.  I really need to tell myself if I want to eat, grab fruit first (or my water bottle).  But sometimes I'm just not hungry for sweet like that.

No More Booze!!!

....tooo many calories.  We had tacos on tuesday (I opted for a salad with taco meat instead).  For some reason, I got this wild hair (or is it hare?) to make margaritas.  Delicious, right?  Well of course....but sooooo unnecessary.  I much rather EAT my calories thank you very much.  Now I am not saying I will NEVER drink one again, but I sure as heck will wait til for a special occasion or a better reason then "hey, it's Taco Tuesdays...woohooo!!!"  I know during the warmer weather, I will want to enjoy something cold and refreshing, so I'll have to work that into my plan a little more carefully. 

In other news, I think I'm going to change my weigh in day.  I know it's like a mind-game, but hey, it's MY mind game.  I'm thinking Thursday might be my day.   Of course I feel guilty and wishy-washy about making a change and really need to let that go.  This is MY program and in doing it ONLINE I really have that flexibility. Heck, if I was going to meetings, I could go any day of the week as long as there was a meeting.  Man, I always am so hard on myself.  Thanks mom.

A New workout

Yes, another new post tonight...aren't you excited?
I nosed around on NETFLIX the other night and found some Leslie Sansone walking workouts that I hadn't tried before.  Most of my other walking workouts are on VHS, so some on dvd would be handy.  I tried this one...  Leslie Sansone Walk at Home 3 mile walk .  It was a great workout for me.  I hadn't done a 3 mile walk dvd since working out again.  The first mile is a basic Leslie workout with the various walking "moves", during the 2nd mile it incorporates the use of light hand weights FOR THE WHOLE MILE.  The participants used weights that wrapped around the wrist. I used my old skool Leslie Sansone weighted balls.  I might look for something different as I'm not sure how good the ball grasping is for my hands.  I think I have some early arthritis in my thumbs.  :(  Then the 3rd mile was back to the regular walking workout.  My arms were dying, but in a good way. 

All in all, a great workout for me.  I highly recommend surfing through NETFLIX to find something new to try.

Inspiration at the right time....

Okay, so I've realized twice now that fun, not typical weekends can really throw a wrench in my WW program.  Sure I have the weekly extra points to use, but the end of the week right before weigh in is not a good idea.  Soooo, I had a gain this week.  I was up 1.8.  UGH!  It's hard to not get down about it and have it ruin the start of a new week.  Weekends are hard for me....especially if I get to go on a rare date with my hubby....and especially if my mom comes to visit and we have pizza and fro-yo.  I know ups and downs are a part of weight loss, but gains are so discouraging. 

So while I was kicking rocks and upset with myself, I came across some new pics of an old friend of mine.  I remembered she'd lost weight successfully on WW and had begun running.  Well, Sunday, she completed her 2nd marathon.  WOW!  So Amazing to see this fit, healthy woman do something that just a few years ago she never thought would happen.  She looks amazing, feels amazing and has a totally different outlook on life.  I messaged her today to ask her some questions about the early days of her WW program....when did she start exercising? when did she start running?  I have tried to run before (attempted the Couch to 5k program last year) and think I'm just too heavy for it.  My feet, shins and knees just couldn't hold up.  But....I do think I would like to start running as more weight comes off.   I would love to run in an organized race.  It's on my Health and Fitness Bucket List.  :)   So now, I've got her exercise in my back pocket to refer to as guidance.  I feel like I'm going a bit willy-nilly just doing what I want or can squeeze in.  I want more of a plan/schedule. 

My goal this week is to increase my exercise.  I'd like to try doing two workouts a day a few days a week.  Today was a crazy-busy-hectic day, so I just got in my 30 min. but hopefully I can get in a stat bike ride during the day, then do a workout dvd in the evening.  I love that I'm getting a nice collection so I have some variety.

A bottomless pit, that's what I feel like!!!!

UGH, it's been one of the days...well couple of days.  I have been eating over my daily number of points (and into my activity points).   Weeks when the hubs is gone can be a big challenging when it comes to meal planning.  I know that.  I try to use up leftovers and make easier meals for the boys since days get very hectic.    But why on earth did I buy a ginormous can of cashews?  Sure I can eat anything on WW, but seriously, who stops at an ounce of CASHEWS???

I'm hoping tomorrow will go better.  Mornings usually are fine.  If I have a better, more filling lunch, hopefully I can make it to dinner.  I finished up my fish soup tonight, so will make a different veggie-filled soup to slurp on, so hopefully that will help.

Tummy Trouble

UGH....I made an impulsive purchase yesterday.  While at CVS, I picked up some Russell Stover sugar free candies.  Now I know I have had them before and know they can be hazardous to your intestinal health, but I figured I can handle it.  Well, last night I had 4 candies, then  I saw that 3 was actually the serving size, so I ate the last two.  UGH....two servings for a whopping 12 points.  Not good.  And now I'm paying for it with a rumbly in my tumbly.  funny thing, I am almost certain I could have had a reg York peppermint patty for 1) less money; 2) less WW points and 3) no digestive issues.   Be careful!!!

New Soup Recipe from the Soup Queen

Okay, I loooove soup.  I seem to be making at least one batch of soup each week.  I get daily emails from ALLRECIPES and this particular soup really caught my eye.  Its a spicy fish soup.  Well, I love fish/seafood and Bex loves her soup spicy, so it was defintely one to try soon.  Here it is:  Spicy Fish Soup 

Spicy Fish Soup
Original Recipe Yield 4 servings


  • 1/2 onion, chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 1/2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 (4 ounce) can canned green chile peppers, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 1/2 cups canned peeled and diced tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup chopped green bell pepper
  • 1/2 cup shrimp
  • 1/2 pound cod fillets
  • 3/4 cup plain nonfat yogurt


  1. Spray a large saucepan with the vegetable cooking spray over medium high heat. Add the onions and saute, stirring often, for about 5 minutes. Add the garlic and chili powder and saute for 2 more minutes.
  2. Then add the chicken broth, chile peppers and cumin, stirring well. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to low, cover and simmer for 20 minutes.
  3. Next, add the tomatoes, green bell pepper, shrimp and cod. Return to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover and simmer for another 5 minutes. Gradually stir in the yogurt until heated through.

Now, of course I did do some changes....I didn't like 5 oz of shelled raw shrimp; the large can of chopped chiles, 1.5 cups of ROTEL tomatoes (for add'l spice) and I cooked the bell pepper (used yellow) with the onion.  I am not sure I like the flakey cod in the soup and might try scallops or some seafood medly (scallops, shrimp, calamari) next time. 

I calcualted it to be about 8 pts for the whole recipe.  Of course, points would vary depending on fish/seafood used and other items added.  With such low points, you could easily add a bit of bread.  Delish!!!

Big Smiles today!!!!

Well, today is weigh-in day.......and I'm happy to report that I've lost 3.6.  I'm officially down 20.8 lbs since Jan 17th. Not too shabby for 8 weeks, huh?  I'm feeling great and it's easy to see why.  I'm no longer packing around 80 cubes of butter or a huge sack of potatoes.  It's amazing when we think of that extra weight we've been dragging around on our bodies and the extra work we force our organs to do for us. 

It was a stressful week.  One thing I've found is I need to plan my eating more carefully.  I got over hungry while running around this past week, and well it usually doesn't end well.  I nibbled (but counted points) what seemed like constantly.   I need to have healthful snacks on me at all times and ready to grab at home.  My kids are getting to a very busy age where we seem to be on-the-go.  I'm also getting busy-busy with some activities that I've taken on.  Busy is good, but you must plan!!!   I'm always packing and planning for them, but what about me???  So, I'll be bagging up some almonds and Trisket Thins for my purse as well as having plenty of cheese sticks and fruit ready to grab at  moments notice.  My water bottle has become my friend.  I keep a refillable bottle in my car and in the house, so I'm always prepared.  I also need to study the list of Power Foods more closely and incorporate them into my days to see if it helps me feel more satisfied. 

I am loving blogging.  I love when people are reading my blog and posting comments and I love reading other blogs.  I just found one today and I can't wait to read more.  Perhaps you would like it, too: Pound Per Pound  She's a successful Weight Watcher with awesome progress pictures and frequent poss.  I found her while googling the potato image above (hope she doesn't mind me borrowing it).  :) 

This week ahead is another busy one.  Absent hubby, first baseball games, swim lessons, scouts, morning appts, school volunteering, and a weekend house guest to prep for.  Planning and preparing for all of that is critical.  I'll keep you posted as the week goes on.

I got this in an email from SPARKPEOPLE and it really hit home.  I look at my boys as a huge motivator for me.  I must lose weight and be healthier to be the best mom to them and to see them grow up.  I don't want to miss out on their lives.
What's your motiviation?

Find Motivation in Your ChildrenParents must meet the needs of their children. Sure, they'll need a house and a room and a place to sleep; Halloween costumes, birthday candles and wrapped presents.

But for now, all they really need is one thing--for you to be at the top of your game. They need parents who are fit, healthy and happy enough to do what needs done and have fun doing it. They need a parent who'll be playing on the floor more than lying on the couch. Your kids need a quick, clear thinker, a heavy lifter, and an all-around fixer of things mechanical and personal.

When you're fit and healthy, you can give your kids everything that they need. They can be your main motivation to meet your fitness goals.

Have you ever stopped to think about why you really feel the need to lose weight, get in shape or pursue any other goal? Is there something big you'd like to achieve? Is someone counting on you?

Your future depends on what you do today. Choices you make now can affect you (and your family) for years down the road. Even the smallest decisions will determine whether you wind up at the top of your game or struggle along with the status quo.

Some of my favorite things...

As the day went on today, I got to thinking of some of the things that really get me going these days....

  • getting my new workout bra and loving how secure the girls feel

  • finding a new recipe that not only uses items from my pantry (and LEFTOVERS), but tastes super, is healthy and WW friendly.  SCORE!!!

  • hubby coming home from costco with three ginormous cartons of, rasp, and black varities!!   I am loving them for a snack, with s/f pudding, or as we had tonight, a side with dinner.  Love, love, love fresh berries.

  • finding my upcoming 25 pound weight loss reward on GROUPON for half price.  I wanted a massage, now I'm able to get a massage AND a facial for like $65.  Two hours for me....just me. 

  • my now ill-fitting clothes....saggy bottoms, pants that come off without unfastening. Thrilled over here!!!!

  • And lastly....seeing a loss of  2.8 this week!!!!   I'm stoked after two weeks of damn gains!!! 
This brings my total to 17.2 lbs lost since my focus on healthy living began Jan 17th and 12.2 lbs lost thanks to WW as of Feb 1)

One month on WW

Yesterday marked one month on WW.  I'm offically down 9.4 in that time (and 14.4 since MLK Day when I made this life change).  I feel great!  I actually had a friend, whom I hadn't seen since last summer, comment about my thinner face just  yesterday.   YES!!! 

While I don't hang out on the WW boards very often, I did notice one regular post counting down to 100th day of program.  I thought that was a pretty cool idea.  Heck, kids count down to the 100th day of school, right?  It appears to be around May 11th.  Now if I'd been a contestant on The Biggest Loser, I could maybe have lost 100 lbs by then, but no worries.  I'm doing what I can, slow and steady.

So what is the longest you've stayed with a program, diet. workout regimen?   I'm trying to think back to when I've done ww previously and stayed on program more than a month.  I think 6 mos probably has been tops (cept for a few times in college when roommates and I were balls-to-the-wall maniacs....but we don't count our teens and early twentys,right?   I can tell that I  have more focus now.  My dedication go physical activty is stronger than ever before...especially without a workout buddy pushing me.  I would like to work towards 1 hr of exercise/day, but I am not ready for that.
